The trailer begins with an exclusive message from DuVernay, who describes the lead character of the series as if she was one of her friends. She explains that the girl is obsessed with Superman and it’s not a random fact. When actual footage of the series begins, viewers get a glimpse into the life of a skateboarder named Naomi who experiences a strange supernatural event in her town.

After the event, Naomi begins to realize she isn’t like others and she soon meets several people who are similarly gifted with otherworldly powers. Throughout the series, Naimi navigates previous relationships with her best friend and adoptive parents as well as with new people who enter her life, all while dealing with the change that plunges her into the multiverse. Naomi is based on a DC comic book series of the same name and written by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker. It’s also illustrated by Jamal Campbell. Naomi premieres on January 11 on The CW.
