The Democratic Alliance (DA) is calling for an urgent parliamentary committee meeting to investigate the scandal at the National Lottery Commission (NLC).

The DA said that the lottery scandal threatens to derail the NLC completely, following allegations that COO, Philemon Letwaba’s wife Rebotile Malomane scored R4.8 million in grant funding in 2017.

It is in line with this scandal that the DA wrote to the chairperson of the Trade and Industry portfolio committee, Duma Nkosi requesting a resolve.

National Lotteries CommissionAccording to GroundUp, Malomane not only scored R4.8 million in grant funding in 2017 but further investigations have also revealed that Malomane’s NGO, Zibsimanzi, a shelf company, received the grant without anything to show for it.

The DA says that the latest revelation follows a litany of allegations of corruption against Philemon Letwaba which the NLC has failed to do anything about, all at the expense of deserving charities which have had their funds distributed to friends and family of Philemon Letwaba.
