Aspiring DJ’s might have worried that the COVID 19 pandemic would thwart a once-a-year
big chance to triumph.

Since 2007, the RedSquare DJ Knockout Challenge has consistently presented opportunities to aspirant ones-and-twos spinners to try out for the most sought-after championship title. The young ones with the potential to become big stars can breathe a sigh of relief to the good news that the contest got set to continue in 2020. Director of Market Development at Halewood Artisanal Spirit company, the company producing RedSquare, Victor Selaelo said: “We have received tens-of-thousands of entries got received over the years.

Annually, numbers of entrants increases and to us that proves beyond any reasonable doubt that there were many young people hungry for an opportunity to put their DJ talent to good use. And we were not going to disappoint them. There was a willingness to take online the DJ Knockout Challenge." Over forty outlets in selected provinces are scheduled to host auditions kicking off at the end of October to run until the closing month of November 2020. The empowerment of grassroots talent, including MC’s that play the role of compères at all auditions, continues to be an integral part of the competition.

A hundred thousand rands bonanza was up for grabs for the DJ that will ascend to the RedSquare DJ Knockout Challenge throne. The second and third prize winners stand to collect ten and five thousand rands, respectively. The outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic and resultant restrictions has meant the DJ Knockout final could not be at Dickinson Park in Vereeniging, where thousands annually congregated.

“An announcement will be made soon about a place that would make it more manageable to observe a minimum of 500 patrons as per the requirements of level one regulations. We are strictly adhering to the rules, so, we plead with patrons that plan to attend the auditions and final to help us and themselves comply to preserve lives, including theirs."
