Mogul Dr. Dre suffered a brain aneurysm in the early days of 2021, in which his doctors didn’t expect him to survive.

Dre, 57, real name Andre Romelle Young, appeared on the Dolvett Quince’s Workout the Doubt podcast where he recalled the near-fatal health scare. The well-known producer spent two weeks in an intensive care unit at a Los Angeles hospital. “I’m at Cedars-Sinai hospital and they weren’t allowing anybody to come up, meaning visitors or family or anything like that, because of COVID, but they allowed my family to come in. I found out later, they called them up so they could say their last goodbyes because they thought I was outta here,” he said.

Dre recalls not being privy to his condition and having his family surround his hospital bed as he laid there was “crazy.” He had to be woken up every hour for two weeks due to his condition. "Basically looking like sobriety tests. Like touch a nose, rub your heels on your calf,” he said. Despite the severity of his condition, feeling extremely exhausted and not eating for two weeks, he didn’t panic and “never felt like I was in trouble. I felt like OK, ‘I’m just going through the procedure and I’m ready to go home,” he said. “Some might say I came out a bit stronger than ever before.” At the time of his hospital admission, Dre told The Hollywood Reporter that “Im doing great and getting excellent care from my medical team. I will be out of the hospital and back home soon. Shout out to all the great medical professionals at Cedars.”
