EMLM spokesperson Lonwabo Kowa, in a statement said, Paul Mahlasela was employed as a supply chain management manager when the allegations that warranted an investigation occurred.

"The matter has not yet been considered by Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality council. It needs to be pointed out however, that the news currently circulating on various social media platforms linking the corruption allegations against the CFO to the Lesseyton Sports Facility is fake and devoid of any substance," said Lonwabo Kowa. He said Paul Mahlasela joined the local authority in March last year, after procurement processes had been completed. "The municipality will advise as soon as further internal developments emerge," he said.

The Lesseyton Sports Facility in the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality near Komani in the Eastern Cape made headlines in 2021 for costing R15 Million to build. Almost six months on from the Lesseyton Stadium debacle, and it would appear that the wheels of justice are turning in Enoch Mgijima. The ramshackle facility, opened with significant fanfare in October 2021, drew national headlines when the true cost of such a dismal project was made public.
