Three men arrested in ‘uniforms’ for impersonating police on the R21

Three men, in uniform, were arrested on Thursday for impersonating police, hijacking, and possessing unlicensed firearms on R21 Highway Thursday.

According to police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele, the three men were arrested in Kempton Park R21 Highway, Johannesburg, on Thursday morning, 26 August 2021, at about 08:30. “They were arrested following the observation by the Crime Prevention Unit of Kempton Park. “Police officers received information about a white Toyota Corolla driving on R21 Kempton Park, and the vehicle is driving with three occupants in Metro police uniform.” Makhubele said the vehicle was spotted and stopped.

 

One suspect tried to flee. “Upon the search of the vehicle, two unlicensed firearms were recovered. The vehicle was installed with blue lights. All three suspects were arrested.” He said the three suspects aged 36, 38, and 40 are expected to appear at the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on Monday, 30 August 2021. They face charges of attempted hijacking, possession of unlicensed firearms, and impersonating the police.
