Beyoncé could potentially become the most-awarded female recording artist in history.

Unsurprisingly, Beyoncé accomplished another feat by becoming the most nominated artist of the 2021 Grammy Awards. The nominations were announced yesterday by the Recording Academy, which also revealed that South African comedian Trevor Noah will be the host of the upcoming ceremony. Bey scored a whopping nine nods, beating all other artists by three as Dua Lipa, Roddy Ricch, and Taylor Swift all received six nominations. Megan Thee Stallion comes in the rear with four nominations as well.

With her nine nominations, Beyonce makes another career milestone, adding to her 79 total nominations throughout the duration of her music career,  making her the most-nominated woman in Grammy history. The Black is King artist currently ties Paul McCartney as the second most-nominated artist in the recorded history of music— ranking her coincidently slightly behind her husband Jay-Z (who received three nods himself this year) and producer Quincy Jones, both of whom have a total of 80 nominations.

Should Queen Bey snag four of those golden trophies out of her nine nominations, it would push her to the 28th Grammy award mark, making her the most-awarded female artist ever. This accomplishment would not only have a tremendous impact on her as an artist, but on the industry itself because it speaks to the significance of her projects “Black Parade” and Black Is King. Beyoncé dropped “Black Parade” (which received four nominations) on Juneteenth, a day that commemorated the end of American slavery two years and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation in Galveston, TX.

As a Houstonian, the project embodied not just great music but a promise to provide voice and action in her commitment to honor her heritage by paying it forward. All the proceeds from this song have gone to her BeyGOOD's Black Business Impact Fund, which benefits Black-owned businesses in need. The praises don’t end there; Beyoncé is also nominated for Best Music Film for the Disney+ summer release Black Is King and Best Music Video for "Brown Skin Girl" that features her daughter Blue Ivy Carter. Additional nominations are for her performance alongside Megan Thee Stallion for "Savage." Both "Black Parade" and "Savage" are contenders for Record of the Year.
