In the ongoing investigation into the tragic murders of South African rapper Kiernan "AKA" Forbes and his friend Tebello "Tibz" Motsoane, a significant development has emerged. A detective, W/O Kumarasan Pillay, has presented compelling evidence implicating Durban businessman Sydney Mfunda Gcaba as the source of an R800,000 payoff allegedly related to the case.

During proceedings at the Durban magistrate's court, prosecutor advocate Elvis Gcweka read out an affidavit from Detective Pillay outlining the details of the alleged financial transaction. According to the affidavit, Gcaba is purportedly connected to the transfer of R803,455 to one of the accused, Mziwethemba Gwabeni, shortly after the murders took place outside Wish on Florida in February of the previous year.

The affidavit suggests a deliberate attempt to conceal the nature of the funds, as the reference used in the transfer was labeled as 'consult'. Pillay contends that this was done to disguise the true purpose of the payment, which the state suspects to be connected to the shootings.

Further investigation revealed additional transactions, including the transfer of funds from Gwabeni to other accused individuals and two brothers located in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland). These transfers, totaling R665,000, were made under the guise of 'dividends', despite the lack of evidence indicating any legitimate entitlement to such payments by the recipients.

Notably, Gwabeni also transferred a substantial amount to St Benedict School in Pinetown, raising questions about the source and purpose of these funds, particularly considering the absence of evidence suggesting any prior involvement or services rendered by Gwabeni to the company.

Based on the evidence presented, the state asserts that it has established a prima facie case against Gwabeni, one of the accused individuals, and opposes his release on bail.
