'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Star Andre Braugher Dies at 61

Emmy-winning actor Andre Braugher has passed away at the age of 61. According to Deadline, the actor died on Monday after a brief illness.

Andre Braugher gained widespread recognition and critical acclaim for his role as Detective Frank Pembleton in the groundbreaking television series "Homicide: Life on the Street" (1993-1998), where he met his wife, Amy Brabson. He earned an Emmy Award for "Outstanding Lead Actor" in a Drama Series in 1998.

 

Following the success of "Homicide," Braugher starred in the series "Gideon's Crossing" (2000-2001), for which he earned an Emmy nomination for "Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series." He also appeared in "Glory" (1989), "Primal Fear" (1996), and "City of Angels" (1998). In 2006, he won an Emmy for " Outstanding Performance by a Lead Actor" in the FX mini-series "Thief," where he played Nick Atwater, a master thief and leader of a heist crew.

 

Taking a step from dramatic roles, Braugher put on his comedy hat for "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" (2013-2021) as the no-nonsense Captain Raymond Holt and earned kudos for his comedic timing. Along with his wife, Braugher is survived by his sons Michael, Isaiah, and John Wesley.
