Busisiwe Mkhwebane, the impeached Public Protector, has aligned herself with the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

She cited her belief in the EFF's seven fundamental principles and expressed her desire to further protect the South African population. Recently, a significant majority of parliamentarians voted for her removal from office following a Section 194 inquiry report citing incompetence and misconduct as grounds for her dismissal. In a recent announcement joined by fellow EFF members, Mkhwebane stated that the EFF was her primary political affiliation and clarified that she had never been associated with the African National Congress (ANC).

Addressing her critics from the ANC and the Democratic Alliance (DA), she emphasized that her decision was not driven by discontent. Mkhwebane reiterated her alignment with the EFF's seven fundamental principles, particularly focusing on the issue of land ownership and economic empowerment. She expressed her belief in state ownership of economic structures and advocated for free education.

Mkhwebane underlined her commitment to championing the rights of the poor and marginalized, a cause she championed during her tenure as Public Protector. She emphasized that her decision to join the EFF was not driven by aspirations for political positions, but rather by her determination to continue advocating for the disadvantaged. She pledged her loyalty and active participation within the EFF, aiming to make a substantial contribution to the party.
