A mansion in Bryanston linked to controversial businessman Hamilton Ndlovu, who has faced allegations of PPE corruption, was successfully auctioned for R7.1 million after the North Gauteng High Court dismissed an application to halt the sale.

Companies associated with Ndlovu secured PPE tenders totaling R172 million from the National Health Laboratory Services. However, the Special Tribunal nullified the contracts and ordered Ndlovu and his affiliated companies to reimburse R158 million with interest.

The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) welcomed the court's decision to dismiss an application by Zaisan Khaihatsu (PTY) LTD, directed by Nokuthula Mokoena, a person linked to Ndlovu, and the court ruled in favor of the auction. The SIU and the National Health Laboratory Services (NHLS) accepted an offer of R7.1 million for the Bryanston home, part of efforts to implement investigation outcomes and hold individuals accountable to recover losses incurred by NHLS and the public. SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago stated that the luxury house was auctioned in July following a final forfeiture order confirmed by the Special Tribunal in January.

Kganyago also mentioned that the companies tied to Ndlovu were granted contracts by exploiting the emergency procurement procedures adopted by NHLS in response to the Covid-19 crisis in the first half of 2020. The SIU, authorized by President Cyril Ramaphosa through Proclamation R.23 of 2020, investigated allegations of corruption, malpractice, maladministration, and irregularities in procuring goods and services by State institutions in response to Covid-19. Their analysis revealed that almost 90% of the funds from NHLS to Ndlovu's front companies were redirected for his personal use, rather than being used for PPE supplies as intended. Only a small portion of the funds appeared to have been used for the actual purchase of PPE.
