Google has recently enhanced its Bard, an AI text generation tool akin to ChatGPT, by integrating it with various popular Google applications and services.

Yury Pinksy, the director of product management for Bard, outlined in a blog post how this integration was made possible using Bard Extensions. These extensions empower this ChatGPT alternative to access and display information from well-known Google services like Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Hotels.

To illustrate, Pinksy mentioned, "For instance, if you're planning a trip to the Grand Canyon, you can now instruct Bard to fetch suitable dates from Gmail, retrieve real-time flight and hotel details, provide Google Maps directions to the airport, and even showcase YouTube videos about things to do there—all within a seamless conversation."

"Alternatively, imagine you're in the midst of a job application and using Bard for assistance."

"You could task Bard with 'locating my resume titled June 2023 from my Drive and condensing it into a brief personal statement,' and then proceed with collaborative work on your new cover letter."

Pinksy emphasized that utilizing the Workspace extensions will not grant human reviewers access to individuals' Gmail, Docs, or Drive content, nor will it be utilized to train the Bard model or present users with personalized ads. Furthermore, users retain the ability to enable or disable these extensions at their discretion.

In addition to these extensions, Google has introduced a new double-checking feature for Bard, aiming to assist users in determining the accuracy of the information being presented. Pinksy explained, "When a statement can be evaluated, you can click the highlighted phrases and learn more about supporting or contradicting information found by [Google] Search."

Users who receive a Bard chat through a public link can also extend the conversation and pose additional questions about the same topic by selecting a new "Continue this chat" button.

Lastly, Google is introducing support for additional features, such as image uploads with Lens, presenting Search image results within responses, and enabling modifications to Bard's responses in over 40 languages.
