The mother of Senzo Meyiwa, a player for Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana, was deeply affected upon discovering that her son's BMW X6 was still in use days after his tragic demise.

This revelation emerged when State witness Tumelo Madlala testified in court, revealing that Afropop singer Kelly Khumalo insisted on using Meyiwa's car even after he was murdered at her Vosloorus residence on October 26, 2014. According to Madlala, a close childhood friend of Meyiwa, Khumalo adamantly refused to drive any other vehicle apart from Meyiwa's BMW X6. Zandile Khumalo, Kelly Khumalo's sister, had previously testified that the two, who were romantically involved, had jointly purchased the car.

Madlala recounted that following the events of October 26, 2014, he, along with Ntombi Khumalo, Kelly, and Zandi, stayed at the Mulbarton residence where Kelly and Meyiwa had lived for a few days. Upon leaving the house on a Thursday, he visited Meyiwa's family home in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, and found Meyiwa's mother in distress over the continued use of her son's vehicle after his passing. Madlala recalled the encounter, saying, "When I arrived at Senzo's home, his mother was seated on a mattress in the dining room with candles placed nearby. I proceeded to explain everything that had occurred, as there were other relatives present as well."

He continued, "I distinctly remember that her first question was how it was possible for us to be using her child's car when he was no longer alive. I informed her that I lacked the authority to rectify the situation, and even the police had informed Kelly of this fact. However, she persisted, asserting that the car belonged to the father of her child." Madlala went on to identify Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, the second accused, as one of the two intruders involved in the altercation with Meyiwa on the night of the failed robbery. He recounted that as Meyiwa grappled with Ntanzi, a punch was thrown, coinciding with the sound of a gunshot.

Madlala described how he sought refuge in one of the bedrooms and returned to find Meyiwa injured and trapped between the couch and a TV stand. After managing to transport Meyiwa to his vehicle with difficulty, Kelly drove at high speed to the local hospital, where Meyiwa was placed on a stretcher by emergency personnel. A short while later, doctors requested the presence of an elderly person, revealing that Meyiwa had tragically passed away.

Madlala shared a poignant moment, recounting his final interaction with his friend's lifeless body. He spoke to Meyiwa, asking why he had called him to witness such a harrowing scene. With a farewell kiss on Meyiwa's forehead, Madlala recounted that Kelly Khumalo entered the room and began removing his watch. Nurses then requested both of them to leave the room. The trial is set to continue today.
