Former Eskom CEO André de Ruyter has secured an illustrious new position at Yale University, a distinguished private Ivy League research institution located in New Haven, Connecticut.

André de Ruyter departed from Eskom in February 2023, following a high-profile interview on eNCA where he openly accused the ANC of engaging in corruption and self-enrichment through Eskom. He asserted that corruption was endorsed and supported at the highest echelons of both the ruling party and the government. In May, De Ruyter published a book titled "Truth to Power: My Three Years Inside Eskom," in which he unveiled further insights into corruption and inefficiency within the power utility.

Subsequent to his exit from Eskom, De Ruyter left South Africa and has resided in an undisclosed location for the past several months. He disclosed that his decision to leave the country was prompted by a warning that his life might be at risk due to his revelations regarding corruption at Eskom. "I became aware that I needed to exercise caution. Rather than waiting to validate the accuracy of the intelligence, I chose to act prudently," he remarked.

His apprehensions followed an alleged assassination attempt in December 2022. After experiencing dizziness and disorientation at his office, doctors discovered elevated levels of cyanide in his bloodstream. Regarding the poisoning incident, he noted that it's challenging to speculate about the identity of those responsible. "There's a rather extensive list of individuals with potential motives," he commented. De Ruyter had previously mentioned receiving intriguing career prospects, many of which were related to renewable energy.

A recent report by the Sunday newspaper Rapport disclosed that De Ruyter has accepted a prestigious role at Yale University in the United States. He will serve as a senior guest lecturer, delivering a course focused on renewable energy and the green economy market. Central to the course's content will be Eskom's Just Energy Transition (JET) vision, aimed at achieving "net zero" carbon emissions by 2050. De Ruyter will conduct his course across three of Yale's esteemed institutions: the School of Management, the Jackson School of Global Affairs, and the School of the Environment.

Established in 1701, Yale stands as one of the oldest and most affluent centers of higher education in the United States. The university boasts affiliations with 65 Nobel laureates, five Fields Medalists, four Abel Prize laureates, and three Turing Award winners.
