The BMW XM Hit Its Top Speed on the Autobahn

The BMW XM is the newest, hottest M car on the block right now. While it's nice to drive, we have reservations about its worthiness as king of the M range. Seeing one fly down the German Autobahn at over 257 Km/h (160 mph) makes that pill a bit easier to swallow.

The AutoTopNL YouTube channel recently took a BMW XM to an unrestricted, speed-limitless section of Germany's glass-smooth highway system to see just how quickly it could reach its electronic speed limiter. The answer: not very long at all. Thanks to a 644-hp hybrid drivetrain consisting of a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V-8 and an electric motor, the XM can rocket from 0-60 in just 4.1 seconds, according to BMW. It doesn't take much longer for the hulking, funky-looking SUV to reach 100 mph. Even as it reaches its 168-mph electronic limiter, it's still accelerating at a solid pace. If the normal XM is this quick, we'd love to know how much more performance the 750-hp Label Red will deliver.
