SABC Sport has learnt that Pitso Mosimane has terminated his contract with newly promoted Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli, after winning the Yelo League title a few weeks ago, and this means that he can now take whatever direction he wants with his career. SABC Sport understands that the former Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns head coach through his legal representatives sent a letter to Al Ahli 15 days ago, informing them of the intention to terminate the contract.

The next process now would be to send another letter demanding that they pay what is due to them as a technical team of four coaches including his assistant Maahier Davids, match performance analysts Musa Matlaba and Kyle Solomon as well as physical conditioner Kabelo Rangoaga. It is also expected that the owed monies would also include bonuses for promoting the team and also winning the league. This termination has also triggered the letter to FIFA, with the world’s football governing body regulations clear that a player or technical team member not paid in two months, can go ahead and terminate the contract.

Al Ahli, one of the four clubs that have been reported to be taken over by the Saudi government through the Saudi Arabia wealth fund, is also currently banned from signing players as they have a litany of cases sitting in the FIFA legal department, with claims of unpaid salaries and transfer fees against them. The Saudi Pro League has ambitions of being a top 10 league in the world, with five-time world footballer of the year Cristiano Ronaldo currently turning out for Al Nassr and A Ittihad has already signed two French stars Karim Benzema and Ngolo Kante from Real Madrid and Chelsea respectively.

The Jeddah-based club has also been recently linked to AS Roma head coach Jose Mourinho and giving credence to this speculation was also the club boss Walid Moaz’s comment that despite Mosimane performing well to achieve his mandate “ but the ambition is greater than him”. Mosimane, who had also indicated that he had a clause in his contract that he would automatically continue with Ahli once promotion was secured, is not short of offers. SABC Sport understands that he’s got offers lined up in the Gulf region, with top national teams here in Africa, as well as some North African clubs. Efforts to get a comment from Mosimane’s team at MT Sports at the time of publishing this story were unsuccessful.
