Attending the launch of the 2023 RedSquare Dance Competition were some top celebrities in Mzansi. Among them was Thobani Nzuza of Uzalo and Deep City Fame, together with Zonke Mnchu from Muvhango and Bettina Wethu.

Entries open on 6 February 2023 and close on 3 March 2023. Winning crews in each category stand a chance to take home R40 000, with solo dancers competing for R5 000 in cash. An overall winner of the competition stands to pocket an extra R10 000 after securing majority thumbs up from the audience at the grand finale scheduled for 29 April 2023 at Sebothoma Hall, Ramotse, Hammanskraal. Billed to thrill during performances are Dj Maphorisa, Daliwonga, Pabi Cooper and Mellow Sleazy. Ticket at Computicket from R50 for the first five hundred, R70 thereafter and R100 at the gates.

 

Dance is an art form considered to be the most basic and relevant of all forms of expression. Passionate people from all walks of life can participate in the art form. The RedSquare Dance Competition is for dancers ready to set the stage alight through moves to the beat of their hopes and dreams to succeed. RedSquare, as a brand, uses the dance competition to give back by presenting a platform of additional exposure for amateur dancers and a cash injection to the winners.

 

It is about encouraging young people to professionalize and use their natural talent to generate income. Previous winners of the RedSquare Dance Competition include the Soweto dance crew - Soulistic Fusion Trio. The S’bhujwa dance group won the 2015 RedSquare Dance competition through their energetic and effortless fusion of various cultural and dance influences. In 2017 Musa Motha, a member of a hip dance group - The Dynamic Crew, used his one leg to help his crew win R35 000.
