Ozgur Gevrekoglu had been on an excursion with several of his friends in Turkey during Thanksgiving weekend. The 32-year-old man's life ended in tragedy after he was accidentally shot dead by his own dog.

The new father was reportedly pursuing game in the mountains of Alacam, in the province of Samsun, located on the Black Sea coast, when the incident occurred. Gevrekoglu was apparently putting his pet dog in his car when the dog’s his paw inadvertently touched the trigger of the still-loaded gun, causing the weapon to fire. According to reports, he died of a gunshot wound to his stomach before paramedics arrived on the scene. He was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Gevrekoglu was then transferred to a state hospital in Samsun for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

For now, it isn’t certain which dog is responsible for the incident as the man has shared snaps with several of his pet dogs. Turkish media reports that the man was actually murdered and the dog story was simply a coverup, but there is no proof of any foulplay. A similar story was reported back in 2018 in the United States of America (USA): Sonny “Tex” Harold Gilligan was infamously shot by his dog in October 2018 while rabbit hunting in the desert of west Las Cruces, but unlike Gevrekoglu, he lived to tell the tale. His Rottweiler mix — accidentally triggered a shotgun in the backseat of a pickup truck. The bullet went into the front seat, striking Gilligan.
