This was confirmed at a SAFA briefing which addressed the matter, having been put under public pressure. "We've honoured the commitment made by the president to reward the players of R400,000 each," said Gift Sikonde, SAFA's finance manager. "We've had to treat this matter urgently, try to prioritise it. We processed the payments this morning. "The 23 players, we'd like to confirm that they've been paid. We are very excited. This is one payment that we made with wide smiles as the finance team." SAFA also said that they will distribute the R5.8-million pledged by the Sports Ministry among the Banyana team members as soon as they receive the money.
