Following the release of an exceptional album, Ghetto King, Zakes Bantwini is now the centre of a legal battle.

According to Sunday World, Paradise Africa, an international record label, has slapped the Osama hitmaker with a R2.4 million lawsuit for breach of contract. Bantwini has been accused of signing another deal with Universal Music. According to legal papers filed at the Johannesburg High Court, Mayonie Productions (Zakes Bantwini’s company) sealed a deal with Paradise Africa to distribute the musician’s album in the United States, Australia, New Zealand and Europe.

As per Sunday World, Paradise Africa was authorised to sell Zakes Bantwini’s music across the globe which meant Mayonie Productions would receive 50% of the profits from Ghetto King. The publication reports that the deal was sealed on 6 August 2021 and it would’ve been legally binding for a decade. Zakes Bantwini’s agreement with Paradise Africa allegedly clashed with a deal he signed with Universal Music in October 2016. Paradise Africa has accused the 42-year-old of “double-dipping” and is demanding R2.4 million from him as a result of loss of income. “The defendant did not hold the right, power and authority to enter in the [new] agreement,” read a part of the legal papers. Bantwini’s Ghetto King was officially released on 3 December 2021 and features stand-out hits like Girl In The Mirror and Osama.
