Meanwhile, the Week 1 fixtures for the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season have recently been released and Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have tough opponents to kick-start their PSL campaigns!

Kaizer Chiefs said: “Introducing the new Kaizer Chiefs Nike Home Jersey for 2022/2023 The gold and black represents the soul of Kaizer Chiefs, this home jersey features a pattern on a high vibrational frequency that measures ENERGY, CONNECTIVITY and BALANCE.”  Amakhosi and the Buccaneers are not the only ones with difficult starts as the same can be said for defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns. All the fixtures, with dates, times and venues can now be found here.

Kaizer Chiefs face a tricky away fixture against Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize’s Royal AM. It will be a massive test for the Glamour Boys’ new coaching team of Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard who will want to show that their new-look Amakhosi side are a vastly improved outfit this season. The Glamour Boys reported for duty recently at the end of June 2022 for their pre-season preparations, and the club recently released a video showcasing the processes and planning that have been underway. Besides welcoming several new players to Naturena, Chiefs have also let others go, many of whom were deemed surplus to requirements. Newcomers include Zitha Kwinika, Yusuf Maart, Ashly du Preez, Dillon Solomons, Kamohelo Mahlatsi, George Matlou and Siyethemba Sithebe.

As a former Academy graduate of the club, Kwinika was in fact part of Amakhosi’s squad that last won the Premier Soccer League title back in 2015. While as a young man he didn’t feature in an official match for Amakhosi in that successful league season, the Soweto-born defender does have a coveted PSL league winners medal in his trophy cabinet from the 2014/15 season. “The move back to Chiefs came about as a result of my hard work from the previous season. It was on the cards and the team recognised it was time for me to come back again. I’m in a good state and ready to represent the team again,” the talented centre-back told the Chiefs media department. “It’s going to be a great season.

It’s not only about me, but about the group at large. Everyone in the team knows the pressure there is to come to rectify what has happened at the Club. It’s high time now for the Chiefs faithful to have a smile on their face. “It won’t be an easy journey, it’s important that everyone comes together as a group. If we do it as a team, there’s so much potential, so much quality in this group that I don’t see anything or anyone that can stop us. It’s a case of getting together and making the Khosi faithful happy again,” added Kwinika. Meanwhile, with the start of the season fast approaching, Chiefs have continued to release images of players back in training that are sure to increasingly excite Amakhosi fans.
