Ex-Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates star gets first coaching job

A former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates star Paulus Masehe has gotten his first coaching following the departure of a head coach.

Paulus Masehe is the new Free State Stars head coach – the position he will occupy in the remaining six games of the season in the GladAfrica Championship. And that’s because Innocent Mayoyo has parted ways with the club after feeling the match officials in the league are doing Free State Stars dirty. Paul Masehe was serving as an assistant to Mayoyo while he was also still playing as he had not officially retired from the game.

As a youngstar in the early 2000s, Masehe, born and bred in Qwaqwa, was signed by Sundowns as a striker and he would go to make a name for himself as a professional football. When Sundowns offloaded him, Masehe joined Pirates in the mid-2000s where he was turned into a midfielder a few months after signing for them. The now 38-year-old moved back to Qwaqwa to sign with Free State Stars in 2011 to try and use his experience to help the younger players in the team.

Two seasons ago, Masehe was made a player/coach, working closely with the technical team if he’s not on the pitch until recently. He will now get to call the shots from the bench for Free State Stars and be responsible for preparing the team at the training grounds on a regular basis.
