Government vows to assist Zola 7 with ‘three phase intervention plan’

The department of arts and culture vowed to assist Zola 7 through a difficult time.

Zola 7, real name Bonginkosi Dlamini has made headlines over the last few days afterimages of him looking frail went viral. Compelled to help him in his time of need, fans kickstarted a crowdfunding campaign for the star – who was diagnosed with epilepsy – to get urgent medical and financial assistance. Zola 7 is well known for his reality TV show which endeavored to help others in dire situations.

 

Gauteng MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation, Mbali Hlophe visited Zola 7 at his home. This, in a bid to reach out and offer help. According to the department, the viral pictures of the star were taken two years ago when he was seriously ill. Since then, the star has begun his journey of recovery but is still struggling financially. The department announced that it would be assisting the star with his medical and financial needs.

 

A statement read: “Whilst not fully recovered and still requiring attention, he is in a better state and has been able to relay to the MEC some of the financial difficulties he is confronted with, to which the department has committed to work with him and integrate him within its programs. “In this regard, the department has offered Zola a three-phase intervention plan that will not only focus on his wellbeing (health) but also ensure a functional structure that is resourceful and sustainable” The department will work closely with Zola 7 through the SILAPHA wellness program.

 

In addition, the department is also seeking to organise a benefit concert, which will “alleviate his current financial challenges”. MEC Mbali Hlope said: “Following the visit, I’m comforted that he’s in a better state than he was the last time we visited. Whilst not fully recovered, consistent participation within the SILAPHA Wellness Program will aid in this path to recovery. “Zola remains an icon, and we thank society for showing him love while still alive”.
