SARS reportedly obtained a default judgement against the dj, whose full name is Sibusiso Arthur Leope, at the High Court in Johannesburg last week after DJ Sbu failed to pay the money. According to Sunday World, court documents show that DJ Sbu had owed SARS just under R5 million for personal income tax, however that amount soon ballooned to a whopping R15 million after just over R9 million in additional tax and interest, were added to his debt.

The publication further claims this isn’t the first time the taxman has gunned for the businessman, who founded the energy drink Mo Faya: In 2018, DJ Sbu failed to settle a R2.2 million bill with SARS. When SARS applied for the current default judgement, it asked that it replace the previous one as it has a higher amount. “In terms of the Tax Administration Act, the South African Revenue Service hereby withdraws the certified statement filed in respect of the above taxpayer. Kindly endorse both copies of this notice, amend the court record accordingly and return one copy as confirmation of the withdrawal to the address above,” part of the letter reads.
