The sequel was officially confirmed by Netflix in July 2021 after the first movie was a hit for the Netflix.

Zack Snyder said that some characters from his zombie centric movie 'Army Of Thieves' may return in 'Army Of Dead 2' that is still in development. Army Of Thieves takes place six years before the events of Army of the Dead and is based on Matthias Schweighöfer's character of safecracker as he is hired by a mysterious woman to pull off a heist with the help of a misfit crew of aspiring thieves. Schweighöfer also directed the movie based on the story written by Snyder. Zack Snyder also opened up about the plans for the upcoming movie in the zombie franchise and in an interview with Inverse, revealed the next movie's title. Snyder revealed that Army Of The Dead 2 will be titled as Planet Of The Dead. He said, " I won't tell you what happens in Army of the Dead 2 aka Planet of the Dead but let's just say that there’s a chance Dieter survives. And there's a chance that brush with death would have caused him to want to find a jailed Gwendoline."

Army of the Dead 2 has received an official title "Planet of the Dead" just as Zack Snyder's Netflix universe expands with prequel movie Army of Thieves. It's no surprise that we'll be returning to this world as Snyder has grand plans for this extended universe, including an anime TV show in early 2022. "To see [Snyder] return to his roots with Army of the Dead, which is now one of our most popular films, and build a world out of these characters with the upcoming Army of Thieves and anime series, is amazing to see," said Netflix film head Scott Stuber. "We've only scratched the surface of what's still to come and create with Zack, Deb, Wes and everyone at Stone Quarry."

The first movie certainly left viewers with plenty to discuss after watching it, such as what's going to happen next to Vanderohe, whether Geeta was alive or dead and where exactly those robot zombies came from. And don't forget the time-loop that the characters may or may not be trapped in. So now that you've enjoyed Army of Thieves on Netflix, here's everything you need to know about Army of the Dead 2. The sequel might now be in development at Netflix, but we might still face a bit of a wait to see Army of the Dead 2. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Snyder will first work on his Star Wars-inspired movie Rebel Moon which is set to go into production in early 2022. Once that's complete, then Snyder is set to move onto the horror sequel. We do at least know its title now as Snyder revealed to Inverse that it's called Planet of the Dead, but we could be waiting longer than we thought as he said in the same interview that he's still "plugging away" on Rebel Moon.

Of the main cast, only Omari Hardwick's Vanderohe and Ella Purnell's Kate Ward definitely survived, but as we mentioned above, Vanderohe is hardly in the prime of his life and is set to be a zombie any moment now. He'll likely still be in the sequel though given the cliffhanger, but they'll have to manufacture a way for Kate to return for more zombie carnage. Her dad gave her some money before she had to mercy kill him, so if we were her, we'd get as far away from zombies as possible. Zack Snyder's zombie movie Army of Thieves was released on Netflix on October 29 and serves as the prequel to the Army of the Dead. It is the second instalment in the Army of the Dead franchise. As the movie was released on Netflix, Snyder teased that some of the characters from the prequel could be returning in Army Of The Dead 2.

In an interview with Screenrant, Zack Snyder said, "You know what, you never know. I mean, we have a plan right now for a sequel to Army of the Dead. And as you know, none of these guys... Really, they're all, I guess, in some prison somewhere. It would be very... It would not be a big... It wouldn't be a stretch, maybe, to see them again at some point." Army of the Dead was released earlier this year, in which a group of mercenaries devise a plan to recover $200 million from a casino vault in Las Vegas, where a zombie outbreak has taken place. The cast for the film included Dave Bautista, Ella Purnell, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera, Theo Rossi, Matthias Schweighöfer, Nora Arnezeder, Hiroyuki Sanada, Tig Notaro, Raúl Castillo, Huma Qureshi, and Garret Dillahunt.
