Mbuso Moloi, the alleged Mercedes Woolworths’ looter will have to hand over his luxury vehicle to the state in terms of a Preservation of Property Order that the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) obtained in the Durban High Court on Friday.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Kara said that the KwaZulu-Natal AFU had obtained the preservation of property order in respect of Moloi’s Mercedes Benz C300 Coupe. Moloi, 30 is currently facing charges of theft and public violence, relating to the looting of a Woolworths store in the Glenwood area in July 2021 during the acts of public violence that took place in various parts of KwaZulu-Natal. “The car which was preserved on the basis that it is an instrumentality of the offences has an estimated market value of about R507 000.

The car will remain with the state until the court grants a forfeiture order,” Kara said. Moloi initially indicated on record in court that he intended to plead guilty to the charges of public violence, theft, trespassing, and contravention of the National Road Traffic Regulations 2000. The latter charge was in relation to operating a motor vehicle with a number plate displaying a license number that is not applicable to the motor vehicle.
