Actor Columbus Short is opening up about how his domestic violence accusations have impacted him and his career.

Sitting down to chat with ladies on the Fox talk show Cocktails With Queens on Tuesday (Mar. 1) the former Scandal star says that he feels that his most recent alleged domestic violence altercation between him and his wife, Aida Abramyan-Short, has overshadowed the work he has done as an actor. “All of a sudden, I’m more famous for being an alleged abuser than I am for the work I really put in my entire life,” he shared during the interview.

The 39-year-old also explained that he has been experiencing anxiety following the alleged domestic altercation that occurred in early Feb. 2022. He also adds that the accusations are simply not true and are not as bad as it is being portrayed. “Every time a headline comes out I go into these panic attacks. So I’m like man, let me get out in front of this thing. I wasn’t advised to do that. I just did that. I think that wasn’t the best thing to do, but I said it. You know what? I stopped the press because they tucked that story,” he said speaking to the headlines made from TMZ.

Adding: “Let me tell you what really happened. I asked my wife to leave the home due to my frustration, and I grabbed her phone which I shouldn’t have did, and I scratched her hand,” he said. Short said that after the police were called, he was arrested due to his history of domestic violence but also noted that officers were respectful and got him in and out. The actor has had multiple domestic violence allegations by two of his previous ex-wives, which prompted his exit from the popular ABC drama series, according to the New York Daily News. Short was formally charged with two misdemeanors following his Feb. 3 domestic violence incident, PEOPLE reports.
