There has been a breakthrough in the Senzo Meyiwa murder case. The first five suspects have been arrested between 8am and 10 am this morning in Gauteng and Kwa Zulu-Natal.

These arrests are a result of a multi-disciplinary integrated approach to the investigation which is working closely with the Directorate for Public Prosecution. The SAPS and the prosecution team are confident that we have a watertight case against all five suspects. At this point, they cannot reveal any further information as investigations are still ongoing and more arrests cannot be ruled out.

It has also been confirmed that the murder weapon has been retrieved, with one of the suspects strongly linked to the said firearm, marking the biggest breakthrough since Meyiwa's untimely passing in 2014. "After gathering sufficient intelligence, information and evidence, I'm happy to announce that there has been a breakthrough in the Senzo Meyiwa case," Cele said. Three of the suspects arrested were not in the house in Vosloroos at the time of the shooting, while more arrests are set to take place, SAPS promised, in a story that will "grow bigger" in due course.
