Katlego Maboe known for his appearances on SABC and the Outsurance adverts has been hit by a social media firestorm on Friday after his wife, Monique Muller exposed him for cheating on her.

Katlego Maboe is also alleged to have given Muller a sexually-transmitted disease (STD), but this has been rejected by the 33-year-old. The fallout exacerbated by a viral video that caught Katlego Maboe’s confession on camera has been nuclear, and it has left the North West-born star facing a very uncertain future.

There are also serious concerns about when he will be allowed to visit his two-year-old son again. The TV host confirmed in a personal statement that they were filing for separation. “I was unfaithful to my partner during a very important time of our lives – an act I regret to this day. We are currently undergoing an unfortunate and painful separation which is being resolved through the appropriate channels,” he said.

There are some reports which claim Monique has obtained a protection order against Katlego. Monique’s brother, Seth Muller, said in a series of Instagram videos this week that Maboe had been abusive towards his wife while threatening to withdraw financial support for the child. This has been vehemently denied by the accused party. Police confirmed toTshisaLive that a ‘protection order’ was filed in Cape Town, but did not name Katlego Maboe as the suspect. The matter has been referred to a senior prosecutor: “This office can confirm that a contravention of a protection order case has been reported at Sea Point police station. The case docket has been referred to the senior state prosecutor, and a decision is awaited.”

Katlego has been pulled from The Morning Expresso Show on SABC, and his Outsurance ads have all been withdrawn. However, this doesn’t mean his career is completely in jeopardy. The disciplinary action imposed on Maboe is conditional – if he’s found innocent pending an investigation, he will return to the screen. Outsurance, who condemned all gender-based violence, said that Katlego Maboe will get a chance to clear his name: “We are aware of the issue surrounding Katlego Maboe and have engaged with him on this. We want to provide Katlego and his family the time and space to deal with this private situation. In the meantime, we will be removing all advertisements featuring Katlego as soon as practically possible.”
