At a major junction, the hijacker hesitated over which road would be the best possible escape route. Instead of forking left or right, he jack-knifed into a grassy embankment, smashing the car up in the process. A short-lived attempt to flee on foot was halted, and the cops were able to apprehend the suspect who’d led them on a dash across the N12.

The initial driver of vehicle, hijacked in Protea Glen, had set off from Potchefstroom and was on the way to Midrand. Although the victim was majorly inconvenienced, they can rest easy knowing justice was served, and no lives were lost: “Fantastic job done by our Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 officers who arrested one suspect in Oakdene, for the possession of a hijacked Toyota Fortuner. This is following a high-speed chase on the N12, with the suspect trying to ram the officers’ vehicle off the road. The vehicle was hijacked in Protea Glen.”
