Katlego Maboe took a break from the talk show after his personal life was thrust into the limelight.

Following a two-year legal battle stemming from allegations of abuse lodged by his ex-girlfriend and “baby mama” Monique Muller, Katlego Maboe is excited to announce his return on 8 August to the Expresso Morning Show. His was let go after Muller accused him of harassment and domestic abuse. The gender-based violence (GBV) activist also cliamed her ex cheated on her, giving her a sexually transmitted infection (STI).

In 2020, Katlego Maboe became a hot topic of discussion after a video of him confessing to cheating on Monique Muller went viral. Filmed by Muller herself, Katlego admitted to sleeping with another woman during their relationship. Following the damning video, Katlego issued a statement that he had, in fact, been unfaithful. Although he denied all allegations of abuse, Monique Muller was granted a temporary protection order against Katlego. Following the viral video, Katlego took a career blow after his “family-friendly” image was tarnished.

As a result, Katlego Maboe lost his contract with insurance company OUTsurance. He was also put on indefinite leave from the Expresso Morning Show. In 2021, Katlego was also snubbed by the SAFTAs and removed as a nominee amid the legal battle. Earlier this year, Katlego was exonerated on allegations of domestic abuse after the court ruled that there were “no grounds” for a protection order. Monique Muller, however, stood by her claims and accused Katlego of “trying to control the narrative”.

On Monday 1 August Katlego Maboe revealed that he would return to the Expresso Morning Show on Monday 8 August. Katlego is expected to have a sit-down with co-host Graeme Richards to discuss what transpired in the last two years. He shared in a statement: “It truly is difficult to put into words what I feel at the moment being back to the place I called home for a decade. I’m filled with so much gratitude for all those who have been supportive and encouraging throughout this journey.

I’m looking forward to having the opportunity, once again, to help an incredible team deliver an inspiring show to our people.” SABC 3 head of channel Pat van Heerden defended the move to reinstate Katlego Maboe. He said: “S3 has always viewed the allegations levelled against Mr Maboe in a serious light. We are delighted that the courts have exonerated him and he can now return to the Expresso family”. The Expresso Morning Show airs weekdays on SABC 3 from 06:00 to 09:00.
