ANC and DA funders and donors revealed

The IEC has confirmed that only ActionSA, the ANC, and the DA have revealed where their biggest donations are coming from, in line with the new Political Party Act.

Hundreds of organisations were compelled to list donations worth R100 000 or more – but only three parties complied with the directive set out by the IEC. The ANC has received a total of R10.7 million in significant donations since April 2021. The largest individual sum came from the Majestic Silver Trading Company.

They dropped a mammoth R5 million into ANC’s badly-depleted coffers back in May. They also received R2.5 million from United Manganese, and R2 million from Nonkwelo Investments. The DA’s funding is much less equitable, however. After receiving a total of R15.98 million from their backers, it has been revealed that one individual – Mary Slack – accounted for almost all of that money, chipping in with R15 million. The sister of Nicky Oppenheimer also runs the family’s memorial trust.
