Stranger Things season 3 premiered on Netflix in 2021, so one would assume that Stranger Things season 4 would be released on Netflix in 2021. But, that is very much in jeopardy now after the production on the new season of the Netflix original series was delayed for months. We hate to be the bearers of bad news, but it really doesn’t look like Stranger Things season 4 is coming out in 2021.

Originally, Stranger Things season 4 was expected to be released in early 2021. Production got off to a great start in 2020, and through the first few months of the year, things were going well. Then, the COVID-19 pandemic shut down production for at least six months, and possibly longer than that. It’s hard to tell when the majority of the cast returned to production.

But, basically, the season looks like it will be delayed by a full year at this point. We’ve heard from a number of Stranger Things season 4 cast members that production would likely wrap in August 2021, including Sherman Augustus and David Harbour. If production ends this summer, there just doesn’t appear to be enough time to get the season edited, promoted, and released by the end of this year. You’d think that we’d be seeing tons of stuff about Stranger Things promotions by now if that was going to be the case, and we just haven’t seen much of anything yet. Netflix also just announced The Witcher season 2 is coming to Netflix on December 17, 2021.

I would find it very hard to believe that Netflix is going to release Stranger Things and The Witcher in the same month. Those are two of the biggest shows on Netflix, if not the top two. On top of that, Finn Wolfhard said that season 4 was coming to Netflix in 2022 on a Fanmio. None of that is pointing to a late 2021 release date. It’s looking much more likely that Stranger Things season 4 will be released in early 2022. Generally, there are about six to eight months between the last day of production and the release date of a show like Stranger Things. If production ends in August, we could expect to see Stranger Things season 4 on Netflix as early as February or March 2022.

That’s our prediction right now! Sorry to break the bad news to all those hoping to see the season this year. It could happen, but we don’t think so!
